FX Impact M4 review: worth the money?

By James · Updated July 24, 2026 · Editorial policy

Verdict: The Impact M4 is my primary hunting rifle and the most capable small-game airgun I've used — but "worth it" depends entirely on who you are. Worth it: serious hunters who'll use the range, modularity, and shot count. Not worth it: beginners, casual plinkers, and anyone who wants a rifle that's simply done out of the box.
How this was tested

Field protocol: every load gets a 10-shot chronograph string (average velocity, extreme spread, energy) before it's trusted on game. Holdovers are confirmed at real distances, then re-confirmed in field conditions. Shots are recorded through the scope cam, and claims on this page link to footage where it exists. How I actually use this rifle

This isn't a bench-only review. My M4 runs 40.1gr ACE FRAG slugs under a DNT Zulus 4K and comes on every rabbit, dove, and pest-control hunt I film. The footage below is the rifle doing its actual job — watch the scope cam and judge the platform yourself:

What it does brilliantly

The honest cons

Who should buy it — and who shouldn't

Buy it if

  • You hunt regularly and shots past 50 yards are on the menu
  • You'll actually do load development over a chrono
  • You want one platform for years, not a starter rifle

Skip it if

  • It's your first airgun — start with the beginner path
  • Your hunting is backyard pests inside 35 yards
  • The full system budget (rifle + glass + air) isn't comfortable
